This is a proof-of-concept build of a Pokemon battle simulator I've been working on, designed to (hopefully) creat more strategic battles that stay true to the spirit of the show. Underneath the battlefield, you will be able to pick which trainer you will play as, and who you will play against. The decision is really only cosmetic - all of the pokemon have comparable stats, and this current version doesn't take type (dis)advantages into account. Their stats are realistic, however - speed and attack v. defense strength does come into play.
Once the battle starts, you will see each Pokemon's position on the battlefield, and green health bars in the upper right. Below that is a form you use to issue commands. You can drop down the menu, and choose to either Move to an adjacent square, use a close-range physical attack (the second option) or a long-range special attack (the third option). As of now, all physical attacks work the same (as do all special attacks), so ignore what you may know about them from the video games. Once you pick which command to issue, click the button for the direction the move/attack should go in. You will issue 3 commands in a row before the Pokemon start fighting, so you need to think ahead a bit.
A couple notes about this current build - first, when you or the opponent are knocked out, the game just sits there doing nothing. You can choose to start a new battle then (or at any time) by picking the trainers and pushing the "Begin Battle" button. Second, the computer moves and attacks completely at random, so many of its decisions are very stupid. Better AI will be programmed in a later version.
Hope you enjoy!
